Background:
Travel back in time to the last century; about 1976.
The owner of Bicycle rode an olympic level 10 spd. type bicycle down what was then known as Aycock St.,
now Boyd. The wind in the face, the ease of velocity; the excited person became convinced his life was going to be dedicated to the bicycle.
A passion which results in 10s of thosandes of miles ridden, a passion which fuels the continuing obsession with riding, providing, and maintaining bicycles.
Now (year: 1971) owner of an olympic level 10 speed, riding regulary to Chapel Hill, Bicycle person has no one to ride with. Enter servicing companions'
bicycles, getting them in good enough repair to make an accompanying ride.
Bicycle person has the extreme good fortune to be mentored by a seasoned bicycle mechanic.
Skip ahead a few years, and Bicycle person now owns 'Cycles', a fully licensed bicycle store.
The bicycle industry is evolving, and California is leading change. Cycles in Greensboro becomes the premeiere mountain bicycle shop on
the East Coast, selling Fisher mountain bicycles.
The servicing of
bicycles, including building 10 spd. type bicycles continued. Although this is not a precise number, we have serviced over 87,610 bicycles as of 19jun2026, the total of bicyccles serviced is still expanding.
Dia-compe, USA base in North Carolina, refined the internal gearing mechanism to seven speeds; Shimano purchased the technology. The seven-speed internally geared hub offers low maintenace
and high chain strength 7 speed internally geared hub bicycle.
At this time there is no safe way to pull back out into Market St., so we are in the process of moving the drop off point to 4065 Rollingwood Dr., Trinity N. C. 27370. The shop itself will
move there soonish.
